The City Council on Tuesday authorized the city of Curitiba to hire a credit operation with the Central Bank of Brazil, to an amount of $ 7.5 million for the purchase of laptop computers that students will be delivered to the municipal of education.

The acquisition of equipment is part of the federal government’s “One Computer per Student,” developed by the Ministry of Education with financial support from Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social (BNDES).

With permission of the municipal council, the city is to join the federal program and will propose the purchase of 20 000 laptops – better known as a laptop or netbook. “The program contributes to the digital inclusion process already present, with the computer labs in 179 schools in Curitiba,” the municipal secretary of education, Liliane Sabbag.

“The computer helps in learning enriches the classroom and encourages children. The program provides that the laptops can stay with students throughout class time networked on the Internet. Teachers will be trained to use the best equipment in the classroom, “he says Liliane.
